10 Tips for a Successful Work Week

Monday blues. It’s a tired old saying for a reason. Monday’s are the worst, but they don’t have to be. With the start of school just around the corner, and summer drawing to an end, life is about to get a lot more busy for a lot people. Try these simple tips to make your work week just a little bit better.

  1. All about Sunday. As good as it feels to squeeze every bit of weekend out of Sunday, using your time to be more productive can really help set you up for a great week. Planning and preparation for the week can set the tone for a great week.
  2. Make Friday count. I know on Friday afternoon the last thing you want to think about is next Monday. However, making a to do list for next week when everything is fresh in your mind can have golden results. This way, when you walk into the office Monday morning you already have a head start on getting stuff done.
  3. Hit the gym. Sweating out a weekend of bad eating (and maybe drinking) can really set you up for success. Try hitting the gym Monday morning before work. You’ll feel energized and ready to tackle the week.
  4. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Starting the day by eating a balanced breakfast helps you maintain proper hunger and fullness cycles throughout the day. And although the first thing many of us think about when we wake up is having a fresh cup of coffee, waiting at least an hour before you have your first cup of coffee allows your body to regulate itself better (and will help you save that caffeine boost for when you really need it).
  5. Meal prep. I know Sunday Fundays are tempting, but taking time to meal prep saves both time and money during the week. Just an hour in the kitchen can translate to big improvements. Also, try thinking beyond just lunches, cut some veggies for an easy stir fry or brown ground beef and pop it in the freezer for a quick pasta sauce later in the week.
  6. Take back Mondays. With all the prepping and planning you’re doing on Sunday, you now have time to claim your Mondays. Change your perception of Mondays by doing something fun. It doesn’t have to be big. Try bingeing your favorite show or having a glass of wine with a friend, anything you can look forward to.
  7. Do something for someone else. Making others feel better inevitably makes you feel better. Start your week with looking for a way to help someone else. Maybe your coworker needs a hand with their bags, or try paying for the guest behind you at the drive through. Thinking of others instead of yourself will always boosts your mood.
  8. Clean up. For many of us, cleaning is another Sunday task. Having a clean home will make you feel more motivated and productive all week long. Plus, you can take some comfort in knowing that when you come home after a long day of work, you won’t have to start cleaning.
  9. Have a Monday routine. Having a set routine, especially on Monday mornings, will help you conserve brain energy for when you really need it. Some of the most successful people in the world stick to a specific daily routine for a reason.
  10. Dress to Impress. You just feel better when you know you look good. Why save that wonderful feeling for only special events? Next Monday, forget the old standbys and instead try something with color or prints. Go next level and pick your outfit the night before.
