Captain Marvel First Reactions: “I cannot wait for the generation of little girls who will grow up with Carol Danvers as a hero”

Captain Marvel has officially taken flight, and the praise has been glowing. Reactions from early showings have hit Twitter, and it’s almost certain that Marvel has another hit on its hands.

Capitan Marvel is the first solo female-lead film of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film is a prequel to the currently half-dusted-MCU-timeline, and audiences have been raving about the nostalgic 90s setting, the amazing soundtrack, surprising humor, and interwoven sci-fi elements.

Although official plot details have been scarce, comic book fans have a pretty good idea what to expect. For the rest of us newbs, we know that the MCU’s version of Carol Danvers is part human, part Kree, and is a member of Starforce, the SEAL Team Six of the Kree. After landing on Earth with mere flashes of memory left of her past life as an Air Force pilot, she fights to stop the shapeshifting Skrulls, who’ve already secretly begun invading Earth.

Critics and fanboys alike are praising Academy award-winner Brie Larson for her performance as Carol Danvers. Reprising his role as Nick Fury is Samuel L. Jackson, along with Jude Law playing Yon-Rogg, scene-stealing Ben Mendelsohn as Talos, and bringing the emotional weight to the movie, Lashana Lynch as Maria Rambeau.

It looks like this movie also features a breakout performance by none other than Goose, Danver’s cat. As Kayti Burt from Den of Geek put it, “Cat people will love this movie.”
