Ready To Quit Your Job? Find Your Brand Voice & Identity

with Leigh Maneri →

Brand strategist Leigh Maneri walks Tyzen through the leap that started it all: leaving an eight-year agency salary to translate soulful entrepreneurs' essence into a digital brand, with no clients lined up and only self-trust to stand on. What unfolds is less a marketing talk than a homecoming: David Whyte's wholeheartedness, the body compass of yes and no, recovering from the chameleon's people-pleasing, and the monarch finding its way back to the mother plant. Underneath it all, one quiet thesis: community is the new currency, and you can't pour from a self you've abandoned.

The antidote to exhaustion isn't necessarily rest. The antidote to exhaustion is wholeheartedness.Leigh Maneri

Show notes.

When John Marrow sends a guest “incredibly highly endorsed,” you pay attention, and Leigh Maneri lives up to it. A brand strategist who helps soulful entrepreneurs translate their essence into a digital medium, Leigh joins Tyzen for an impromptu conversation that quietly refuses to stay about marketing. She tells the story of the leap: eight years at an agency, a loyalist by nature, reading David Whyte’s The Heart Aroused and waking up in the dark woods of her own life to ask whether this was really what she wanted. No clients lined up, no salary, just one conversation with a naturopath who said “I want that — I didn’t know I needed it.” From there, a whole web of referrals, and a practice built on the truth that brand clarity is first a mirror you hold up to yourself: oh, I’m special, I bring something really unique.

The arc moves from head to heart and keeps circling home. Leigh names the chameleon kid she used to be (porous edges, reading every room, making herself small to keep the peace) and the long work of recovering from that people-pleasing through the body compass: expansion is a yes, the rounding-in of the shoulders is a no. Tyzen meets her there with his own decades as an “anti-salesman,” his pollinator and monarch imagery braiding into her philosophy of reciprocity, and the central image they build together: the caterpillar that wanders off its milkweed, and the human who walks away from the mother plant by following someone else’s path. The way back, for both of them, is the same: stop self-abandoning, come home to the self, and let community fill you so no single partner or outcome has to carry everything. Underneath it all sits the thesis Tyzen names plainly: community is the new currency, and the truth is always measured in energy.
