Matt McKibbin
Matt McKibbin has carried the message of decentralization since 2013, under a line of his own: empowering the individual through decentralization. A physics graduate of West Virginia University, Matt co-founded DecentraNet, a self-funded frontier technology partnership, and the decentralization conference d10e, sits on the board of the Startup Societies Foundation, and has spoken at SolarPunk Summit since its early years.

Tyzen's word on Matt
Matt has been at SolarPunk Summit since the beginning. At his first talk here, his son, a few months old, was strapped to his chest holding the microphone. This year he walked onto the Love Dimension stage on Fire Day, greeted us with nerdy crypto valentines (“your love is the only thing which can decrypt the private keys to my heart”), and then handed the room a new idea.
He called it the Internet of Power: make energy addressable the way open internet standards once made devices addressable. Then he asked us to imagine it. Sovereign power in our own communities, so that if the grid went down we could still stand. Cheaper power when we plug in together. The largest battery network in the world, with no one owning the power. He taught exergy, the useful work left in a system, with a hot cup of coffee and a song he wrote for his son.
What we love in Matt is that he brings the deepest technology to the gathering as an act of love and imagination. He named what keeps him coming back himself: the community, and the people who care about consciousness and technology and using things the right way.

The Internet of Power
“It's called the Internet of Power. And it's making energy addressable. Kind of like we made devices on the Internet addressable when we had the advent of the open Internet standards.”
