Tyzen's word on Sam

Sam turned the whole field into a choir. On Water night at SolarPunk Summit, Sam taught the parts by ear, and by the end of the song the room was singing the surrender back: “Empty out and open up, Holy Spirit come.”

Angel had asked what the love dimension means, and the answer Sam brought was a harder question: where can I love when it is the hardest to love? With Jade and Julia on vocals and frame drum, the set moved from songs to spoken word to Psalm 150 sung in Hebrew, and the poem landed in the line we keep returning to: “I am overcome by the knowing that I am surely not alone.”

What we love in Sam is that the teaching happens through the singing. Nobody watches a Sam Bottner set; everybody is in it.

Stream Who Knew, watch the live session from King Electric, and if you are in Austin, come sing at the Memoria Song Circle on October 25 or catch the set at Sahara Lounge on November 1.
